A Couple of Angels

Two weeks after we were scheduled to close escrow
On the 50ac café finca in Palmira, Boquete, Panamá,
We schedule a meeting with our attorney.
Arturo, our café finca general manager,
Joins us as we include a discussion
Regarding our unfolding agreement with him
In managing La Gracia Café Finca,
A subsidiary of The Oneness Community.

Attorneys in Panamá
Are involved in real estate transactions
Once the sales agreement is completed.

How did we select our attorney?
Our real estate agent introduced us
To two potential candidates,
“Good fits” for our needs,
Recognizing that we will be selling
Andrew-designed houses and land
In the near future.
While still living on Maui,
We spoke with both attorneys over WhatsApp.
They both sounded completely competent.
We could not get a reading on which attorney
Would better fit our “needs”.
How to make a decision
From so many miles away?
Why, you base it on humor, of course!
Really?
This was our only way to differentiate
Between the interviews we conducted
With each potential attorney.
Given Attorney Oliver’s levity
Prompting a good laugh amidst us,
He was our choice.

Now that we know what we know,
With this very calculated decision making process🙃,
We feel God’s guidance
Given the selection of an attorney
From a highly respected and well known
Panamanian family of attorneys and accountants.
Over and over again,
Have we seen the gift of our chosen attorney,
From chance conversations with expats here in Boquete
To the clear intelligence and vast experience
That Attorney Oliver has shown time again
With the unfolding of our land purchase.

Where does the land purchase stand in this Now?
Rather than closing on August 18,
It appears that we are closing in early October
Due to tax implications for the seller.
It is a complicated land transaction
As there are three parcels,
Zoned agricultural,
Having increased in value over 10 times‼️
From the seller’s original purchase.

As Andrew and I sit with
Attorney Oliver and General Manager Arturo,
We see a couple of halos,
One over each of these Panamanian men.
We recognize the gift they each are for us,
With their integrous ways,
Kindness and respect,
Deep caring,
High intelligence,
Stupendous networking abilities,
All supporting in a great ability to flat get ‘er done.

It now appears that we will be closing on the tierra
In October, perhaps two months later than anticipated.
We are learning that a delay in closing
Here in Panamá is not so unusual.

We have plans in place for:
Harvesting café,
Testing soil & water quality,
Moving local indigenous peoples
Of the Ngäbe tribe
To their new residency upon this tierra
To work under Arturo’s supervision,
All anticipated to occur in September 2025,
Being postponed ’til the following month.

We feel the disappointment with the delay.
We are working with our attorney to expedite the
Already tardy close of escrow.
We feel Arturo’s excitement to begin the harvest,
Test the quality of the café grown on this tierra,
Only to be thwarted by this delay.

With patience as our teacher,
We recognize
All is in God’s very capable hands.
And, once again,
We are being asked to Trust
And have Faith
That all is unfolding exactly as it “should”,
For the highest Good of all.

Beauty Surrounds Boquete

In the interim,
Andrew continues drawing,
Designing to his Heart’s content 🙂
We resume honing our agreement with Arturo
To manage La Gracia Café Finca.
We begin our purchases
Toward the development of land, café and buildings with
“Wild edge” unfinished teak shelving,
A new set of DeWalt power tools for Builder Andrew,
And a farm truck named “Ricardo”,
Lucy’s big brother.
And with this,
We progress in learning all things Panamanian🇵🇦

  1. Glad to see you are progressing well. You are like Karen Blixen though Andrew is a much better mire reliable partner than hers. Continued good luck with your dream endeavor. Sending hugs and love.
