Blue Glass “Rocks”💠

It has been a few months since our last post
And during this “pause”,
A little bit of this and a little bit of that
Has transpired.

There are a number of signatures that imbue Andrews architectural style,
These being the usage of blue glass “rock”, curved beams,
Scored and dyed concrete floors, large picture windows,
Wood flooring gracing the ceiling, all amidst wide open interior spaces.

We have looked high and low for both
The blue glass rock and curved beams
Since taking up residency in Panamá🇵🇦

Blue Glass Rock:
When we lived in Arizona,
Andrew purchased a ton (yes, 1 ton!)
Of blue glass rock from a window manufacturer located in Mexico,
The “rocks” being gathered from the bottom
Of the furnace after it was “cleaned”.
We considered contacting the Mexican window manufacturer, however,
Shipping from Mexico through Central America is no easy feat.

Arturo, Adriel and Andrew (A3) scoured the internet
Lookin’ for this “specialty” item.
In general, the glass that they located on the web was small in stature,
Whereas Andrew’s architectural needs require something
In the range of 13-17” wide weighing in the range of 15-20 lbs.

Andrew sent me a number of probable websites
For researching glass availability,
Most of them not panning out
With either no response,
No inventory, or
Wrong color
(Deep green or dark blue, neither permitting sun to shine🌞through).
And then🥁…
Lisa, representing Daixi Industries, was revealed💡
Located in Shandong, China,
She has the glass
Made from recycled materials.
She mentions that “coincidentally”
(For any of you “V for Vendetta” aficionados, you’ll recognize that
“There is no such thing as coincidence”),
She has a client to whom a container is being shipped within the month
Who is willing to include our pallet of 1 metric ton of blue glass rocks
AND
That client just happens to reside in Pompano Beach, Florida,
73 miles from our under-the-radar shipping company to Panamá‼️
With a bit more research ensuring we are not being hoodwinked,
And having proven the legitimacy of the receiving company
(Southern Grouts & Mortars, Inc) in Pompano Beach,
Payment for the blue glass💠 has been sent to Hong Kong🐉
Daixi is in the midst of “crushing” blue glass rocks,
Sized to our general specifications
To be shipped within a couple weeks to Florida.

Our blue glass “rocks” packed at Daixi in Shandong, China, bound for Pompano Beach, Florida🚢

Next steps:
Trucking from Pompano Beach to Stuart, Florida (73 miles 🚛);
Shipping from Stuart, Florida to Bocas del Toro, Panamá (2 weeks by sea 🛥️);
Trucking from Bocas del Toro to the land named Grace (4 hours 🛻).
Given so many trials and tribulations with locating the glass,
We recognize God’s Gift 🎁 in the (mostly)
Easeful journey of this specialty item to The Oneness Community’s homes.

Curved Beams:
Since day one of meeting with our potential architects and builders,
Locating curved beams locally has been the bulk of consternation
As curved beams are not a mainstay of Panamá🇵🇦
Our chosen architect/builder has not been able to locate anywhere in Panamá
Keeping Andrew up at nights with concern, as
(With emphasis) this is a signature of his architectural style.

Once learning that ostensibly nowhere in Panamá
Can 8″ structural steel beams be bent
(No problema in the USA),
Andrew wakes up one evening with a realization⚡️
What about bending three 3″x 3″ square steel tubes, bonding together,
So as to get a similar beam depth to the 8″ structural steel beam
(Even better, at 9”)?
The feel of mass that the 3 bonded square tubes would provide
Is integral to the look and feel of the space
All affecting the proportions within the casa.
It is a felt experience of curves and mass that create the magic
Of the interior space.

An example (albeit rusty) of a square tube 1/8″ thick steel, dimensions 3″x3″

It is our intention, therefore, that
Three square tubes (1/8”thick, 3” x 3”) will be welded together
In 20′ to 30′ lengths
With the ends capped,
In lieu of a single curved steel or wooden beam (as those used in our Maui home).

Following the first colored and scored concrete floor pour at Jardín Casita

The scored and colored concrete floor of Jardín Casita
Was completed in 5 separate segments spanning as many days.
Scoring and coloring concrete is a new concept
For the Panamanian construction team
Prompting Andrew to take the lead and show ‘em how💪

Andrew and I began serving a monthly home-kitchen made meal
To the construction workers
On Fall Equinox 2026
With the intention for sharing our Gratitude
For their service to this project.
The 7th and last meal is to be served Spring Equinox 2027,
When it is scheduled🙏 that we move onto the land🧑‍🩰

Harvesting of ripe café cherries🍒 began last month, October 2026
And is likely to continue through February 2027.
What a Joy it is to ride mi bicicleta🚲 through Grace amidst the
Construction of casas that will house The Oneness Community
And
The harvesting of coffee cherry,
That will imbue our cups☕️ (and many others!)

Moist from the afternoon rainfall, ripe coffee cherries🍒 awaiting their soon-to-be harvesting (November 6, 2026)
